I graduated in Mathematics at the Universitat de Barcelona (UB). My scientific career started in the Statistics Department of Columbia University, NY, where under the direction of Prof. John Van Ryzin, I obtained my PhD in 1986. After a short stay as Assistant Professor in the Statistics Department at Ohio State University, I joined the Statistics and Operations Research Department at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya-BarcelonaTECH (UPC). I was appointed Full Professor in 2005.

My research interests are broad and encompass survival analysis, clinical trials and statistics applied to basic and clinical Research of AIDS. In the last years I am getting interested in problems in the frontier of bioinformatics , mainly relating survival analysis and omics data.

I am the coordinator of the Research Group in Biostatistics and Bioinformatics (GRBIO, 2014SGR 464) with academic members from UPC and UB and of the Survival Analysis Research Group (GRASS) with academic and professional members from 10 different institutions.

I am the UPC Coordinator of the Interuniversity Doctorate in Bioinformatics, Vice-Dean in the School of Mathematic and Statistics (2012-2105), chair of the Master in Statistics and Operations Research UPC-UB (2006-2015)

I was former President of the Catalan Statistical Society (2012-2013) and of the Spanish Region of the International Biometric Society (1999-2000), co-PI of Biostatnet (Spanish National Network in Biostatistics) (2010-), Elected member of the Council of the International Biometric Society (2000-2003)

Research areas:
